Alexandra is an endorsed Clinical Psychologist registered with the Australian Board of Psychology, and a credentialed ANZAED Eating Disorder Clinician. Based in Caringbah in the Sutherland Shire, Alex aims to hold space for individuals and families to reflect, understand, and connect. She works alongside families in a warm and relatable, collaborative, empathic, and non-judgmental way to support safety, reflection, and openness for change. Her practice draws on Dialogical principles and is grounded in evidence-based practice.

A primary focus of Alex’s clinical work is providing specialist psychological treatment for young people and families affected by eating disorders. In addition to working in private practice, Alex also works at the Sydney Children’s Hospital in the Eating Disorders Intensive Program for Adolescents (EDIPA), a specialised tertiary service for adolescents and their families navigating complex eating disorders. Alex has also worked as part of multidisciplinary teams on child and adolescent eating disorder inpatient wards, and in school settings, and is therefore familiar with the full spectrum of child and adolescent developmental and mental health concerns.

Alex is trained in Maudsley Family Based Treatment (FBT) for Anorexia Nervosa and ARFID, Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for ARFID (CBT-AR), Systemic Family Therapy, Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Open Dialogue, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

FAQs

  • You do not need a referral to make an appointment. However, a referral from your GP is needed to be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate.

  • Speaking with someone new can be a daunting and unfamiliar experience, and it is completely normal to feel nervous before your first appointment.

Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know one another. The psychologist will talk with you about confidentiality, discuss important administrative information, and answer any questions and address any worries you have about the process of accessing support.

The session will then explore your history, current situation, and main concerns. This helps the psychologist to gain an understanding of your needs and provides a context for discussing treatment options and recommendations moving forward.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes.

  • The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommend rate for a consultation is $311 for a 50 minute consultation in 2024 - 2025. The cost of a session with Alexandra is $285.

Sessions are payable at the time of consultation. At the commencement of treatment, you will be required to provide your Credit Card details which will be stored securely on file. Payments will incur a 1.9% card processing fee. Please ensure there are sufficient funds in your nominated account before your appointment. You will be sent an Invoice to confirm your payment has been processed.

  • If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDP) then you will be eligible to access a rebate.

    1. Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) - entitles you to 10 Medicare rebated sessions per calendar year. After your sixth session, you need to return to the same GP for a review to be eligible to claim the remaining four sessions. Your GP will need to prepare a MHCP and write a referral letter, detailing the number of sessions that the referral covers.

    2. Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) - if you meet criteria for an Eating Disorder, an EDP entitles you to up to 40 Medicare rebated sessions in 12 months. Every 10 sessions, you will need to return to the same GP for a review to be eligible to access the remaining sessions on your plan. A specialist review by a psychiatrist or paediatrician is required before Session 20 to be eligible to access the remaining 20 sessions. As the waitlist for specialists can be very lengthy, we suggest booking an appointment or getting on a waitlist as soon as your EDP has started.

Please bring both your referral and your MHCP / EDP to your first appointment.

The Medicare rebate as at 1 July 2025 for therapy sessions with a Clinical Psychologist is $145.25. Please note there will still be a gap fee for Medicare rebated sessions.

You will be required to provide your Medicare details at the commencement of treatment. If your session is eligible for a rebate, this claim will be sent to Medicare on your behalf at the time of payment. You will be issued with an Invoice once your payment has been processed, with confirmation that this has been sent through to Medicare.

  • To avoid a cancellation fee, clients must cancel their appointment with more than 48 hours notice.

    • Cancellations made within 24 to 48 hours of the appointment will incur 50% of the consultation fee

    • Cancellations made in within 24 hours of the appointment will incur 100% of the consultation fee. This same fee applies if you do not show for your appointment.

Please note, these fees cannot be claimed through Medicare.
